CLOSER... CLOSER!!

The days go by and the Florida Film Festival keeps its promise to deliver amazing films to wonderful people! We are now officially halfway through the week and the excitement has not yet left it's peak.

Tomorrow (Thursday the 15th) the Obselidians arrive. Writer and first-time director Diane Bell, producer Chris Byrne, and actors Michael Piccirilli and Gaynor Howe will all be in attendance at the festival until it closes on Sunday. They are really excited to meet with everyone at the Enzian for their second and final screening at FFF2010, which will be at 1:30 PM.

And you have to admire their endurance. Since the film premiered in late January, 2009, they have been in attendance at film festivals like Sundance, Tiburon, Ashland and Dallas. The film has received much recognition, including "Excellence in Cinematography" and the "Alfred P. Sloan Prize" at Sundance, a special screening at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington D.C. and it won "Best Feature Film" at the Ashland Independent Film Festival!

The film is finishing up in Dallas today. Here's to wishing them luck with that, and safe travels to Orlando, FL!

OBSELIDIA WITH THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

On April 6 Diane Bell was invited to bring her film to Washington D.C. and share it with the Science and Entertainment Exchange and the Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences.

The message of Obselidia is translating as it was intended to into the political and social realm of environmental activism.

Click here to see a great article that recaps the panel discussion that followed the screening. The panel was moderated by Kevin Finneran, Editor-in-Chief of Issues in Science and Technology.

SPOTLIGHT: MICHAEL PICCIRILLI

While Danielle Francis was researching Obselidia for an phone interview with Diane Bell she learned quite a bit about the cast and crew, particularly Michael Piccirilli, who plays George in the film. The 39 year old Sydney-born actor got his start in theatres in Australia and the UK, performing in vasiour plays including Squirrels and All Men Are Whores (both by David Mamet)
Piccirilli moved from the stage to the set in the late 1990's, portraying James Fraser in a popular Australia sitcom called Home and Away from 1998-2005, and making appearances in two episodes of the hit American television series 90210 as Antonio Garrett in 2008.

Piccirilli shines under Diane Bell's direction in Obselidia. He represents a sort of resilient nobility that is not often seen in todays society.

He will be joining his costar Gaynor Howe along with Diane Bell and Chris Byrne at the Florida Film Festival this year and will be attending the Friday afternoon screening of Obselidia at the Enzian Theater at 1:30.
